We gather to learn from and connect with one another

We can’t do this work alone — not in our congregations or our communities. It takes all of us working together, supporting each other, sharing knowledge, providing accountability, and rooting ourself as Unitarian Universalists.

Deepen your commitment to our collective work for justice by volunteering with MUUSJA. Your effectiveness, capabilities, commitment, and capacity grows in relationship. Plus, it makes the work more meaningful and fun!

Be a congregational connector

Our goal is for every UU congregation in our network to have 1-2 people serve as a Congregational Connector with MUUSJA. This strengthens your congregation’s connections to our organization and helps congregations connect with each other. This is one of the gifts of an alliance

Description:

Are you passionate about social justice and eager to make a tangible difference in your community? Would you like to connect in community with other UU organizers from across our network? Would you like to explore what spiritually grounded organizing could look like?

As a Congregational Connector, you serve as a liaison and play a crucial role in fostering collaboration, communication, and engagement between MUUSJA and your congregation. You will serve as a bridge, conveying our organization’s mission, values, and initiatives to your fellow congregants. You’ll also represent the unique perspectives and priorities of your congregation back to use.

This kind of partnership:

  • increases our capacity to engage the many unique UU communities in our network by building relationships between and among us;
  • gives our isolation, anguish, and fear a break by coming together and following Love’s call for Justice in tangible, spiritually nourishing ways; and
  • intentionally explores what a spiritually grounded approach to social justice action and organizing looks and feels like.

Responsibilities:

  1. Act as a point of contact between your congregation and our Unitarian Universalist social justice organization serving Minnesota and the neighboring areas.
  2. Attend one monthly meeting via Zoom with other MUUSJA Congregational Connectors; strive to attend special events as scheduled (no more than two per year).
  3. Facilitate communication channels between your congregation’s leadership, members, and MUUSJA, ensuring that relevant information is shared effectively.
  4. Advocate for the integration of social justice principles and initiatives within your congregation’s activities, programs, and outreach efforts.
  5. Collaborate with MUUSJA to identify opportunities for joint projects, campaigns, or initiatives that align with the values and mission of both your congregation and MUUSJA.
  6. Provide feedback, insights, and suggestions to improve the partnership and collaboration between your congregation and MUUSJA.

Qualifications:

  • Actively engaged in a Unitarian Universalist congregation.
  • Available to attend Zoom meetings on the first Monday of the month from 7:15 pm to 8:15 pm.
  • Checks email regularly.
  • Passionate about social justice issues and committed to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively navigate and engage with diverse perspectives and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to dedicate time and effort to serve as a liaison between your congregation and our organization.
