UUAHP STEERING COMMITTEE
Meeting minutes, June 5, 2003

Attending: Bob Aderhold, Phil Morton, Nan Corliss, Ron Dueltgen, Barbara Weatherhead, Jo Haberman, Carol White

Convener: Bob Aderhold
Presiding: Jo Haberman (eventually)

Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH)
Bob A and Carol W attended the opening of the CSH project on Central Avenue, which is one of the projects for which UUAHP funds ($15000) were used. Central Avenue is fully occupied with single men and women in recovery from substance abuse; some also have a diagnosis of mental illness.
Carol W distributed a comprehensive report on CSH's use of UUAHP funds. In addition to the Central Ave. Apartments (above), our funds have been committed to the Agape/Oasis of Love project in the Hawthorne Neighborhood of North Mpls ($15000 committed, $10000 disbursed), with a focus on domestic abuse victims. Also, $15000 has been committed to NE House, a joint project with Project for Pride in Living and Pillsbury United Communities, which will focus on male single-parent housing.
UUAHP has recently awarded an additional $15000 to CSH. It is likely that this grant will go to Human Services, Inc., to support projects for homeless youth and for families with children.
Each of these $15000 grants is scheduled for repayment when CSH secures permanent funding of the project(s).
We also discussed possibilities for closer contacts with CSH projects, including being advocates for siting choices and volunteer opportunities for members of our congregations.

The ongoing issue of a bus tour of CSH sites was discussed. We would like to have Peter Bell, Peggy Leppik, and/or other Metropolitan Council members to join us. Jo H will contact Mr. Bell's office to find an acceptable date. If no date can be worked out, we proposed that a tour be scheduled for July 2, around mid-day. Bob A will contact CSH to begin making arrangements.

Habitat for Humanity
Nan C reported that dates have been set for the CBC build, beginning July 21, 2003. The first two houses are not in the Heritage Park development; apparently, those issues have not been worked out yet. Volunteers should register at www.cbcminneapolis.org - it's a pretty good web site.
UUCM has contributed an additional $250 to Habitat.
We are still looking for a replacement for Victoria Runnells as UUAHP Habitat coordinator. Contact Jo Haberman if you are interested.

Peter Bell meeting
There was general agreement that the meeting went well. Attendance was excellent. We agreed that we need to maintain our working contact with the Metropolitan Council.

GIS Workshop
Phil M reported on the possibility of obtaining some detailed geopolitical maps of the metro area that might include location of all metro area UUs, location of members of individual congregations, etc., in collaboration with the Alliance for Metropolitan Stability. Our challenge would be to negotiate release of all UU members' addresses to load into the mapping database.

Alliance for Metropolitan Stability (AMS)
UUAHP is a member of AMS. We need a volunteer to attend AMS meetings (6/year) as the UUAHP representative. The meetings are at 2525 E. Franklin Ave., #200, Minneapolis. Please contact Jo H or Bob A if you are interested in being our representative.

Assignments were made for newsletter articles to be submitted to Barbara W.

Respectfully submitted,

Ron Dueltgen
