UUAHP
Steering Committee
Meeting Minutes, February 6, 2003
Attending: Bob Aderhold,
Jo Haberman, Nan Corliss, Ron Dueltgen, Barbara Weatherhead, Linda-Beth
Riggs
Presiding: Jo Haberman
Conference debriefing:
Generally rave reviews for all sessions, according to anecdotal evidence.
Barbara W. will produce a synopsis of the evaluation forms (distributed
2/8/03).
We should be careful that the educational emphasis may be overdone at
this point.
Possible next emphasis - NIMBY/YIMBY, as applied to supportive housing
There were 53 registered attendees from 9 congregations/fellowships
It is still an open question whether the conference was worth all the
effort put in to organizing and feeding, etc. This needs to be discussed.
Current Work
Day On The Hill, Feb. 11. Lots of attendees needed
Hearing re: LUPA, Feb. 11, 2:30 PM. Contact committee members to oppose
HF30!
JRLC Day on the Hill, Feb. 20
Action is needed to oppose cutting Section 8 vouchers in US Congress
We will continue to work on defeat of HF30 - the LUPA bill - in concert
with AMS
At the Federal level, we continue to support enactment of the Federal
Housing Trust Fund
At the local level, we celebrate passage of the Minneapolis Housing Trust
Fund. Gene Martinez provided important leadership for this effort. Thanks,
Gene!
Bob A will work with MICAH Minneapolis working group on YIMBY
CSH Interactions
We agreed that the Steering Committee needs more communications with CSH,
via our CSH Board representative, Carol White. We will contact her to
request more frequent reports.
The bus tour of affordable housing sites was discussed. We want to try
again to do it this spring, on a Saturday. We hope that more people will
be able to attend, especially ministers, congregation Board members, and
congregation social action committee members. Watch for further news.
The question of an additional grant to CSH was discussed. At our meeting
on June 13, 2002, we voted to grant $10,000 to CSH, contingent on their
use of the first grant. We agreed to address this issue at our next meeting.
Metropolitan Council
Now that Peter Bell, an active member at FUC, is chair of the Met Council,
it seems appropriate for us to arrange a meeting with him to introduce
our organization and seek ways to work together. Jo H will coordinate
actions toward a meeting with Mr. Bell.
MUUSJA
Next general meeting on Sunday, Feb. 9, 3:00 at FUC. All are welcome.
Treasurer's Report
Current balance is $22710.70, not including conference expenses.
Ron D has prepared spreadsheets detailing UUAHP income and expense for
each of fiscal years 2000, 2001 and 2002. Miraculously, the figures match
those in the FUS Administrator's records.
FUC Foundation
Considerable discussion ensued about preparations for the MUUSJA presentation
at the next FUC Foundation meeting, Feb. 24. We reviewed the documents
prepared by the MUUSJA steering committee, primarily directed toward a
grant proposal for funds ($28000) to hire a part-time (20 hrs/wk) staff
person for MUUSJA. We also discussed a MUUSJA communications document
aimed at clarifying identity and communications objectives for the Alliance
and for each of its working groups.
Topics for the next
meeting
Use of UUAHP funds
Habitat for Humanity funds and funding
A further contribution to CSH
Future fundraising efforts
Further contributions to Person to Person and/or Neighbor to Neighbor
Respectively submerged,
Ron Dueltgen
Secretary/Treasurer
