The October project with Congregations Building Communities (CBC) has been completed.  Bob A. will contact Carol Koepp to get particulars on the extent of UUAHP participation.  More workdays are scheduled, as follows:  11/11, 1/19, 1/21, 2/16, 2/18, 3/16 and 4/13.  Please note that these dates do not correspond to any dates posted on the UUAHP web site.  Check with your local coordinator.

The dollhouse raffle is coming up on December 15.  In the meanwhile, the dollhouse is on display at some UU churches.

Hands-on opportunities for working with Person to Person were discussed, in light of Leila Erlandson’s presentation last month.  Those who have dealt with PTP have had very positive experiences.

Public Policy

Jim Scheibel has agreed to be the keynote speaker at the UUAHP Annual Meeting, but the date has not been set yet.

The Jewish Community Action interfaith series on the affordable housing crisis, “Building Bold Solutions for Affordable Housing” were discussed.  The next two programs will be on January 9 and January 30.  FFI contact Mary Jane Mitchell at 612-824-8296.

Jo Haberman distributed the agenda from the Alliance for Metropolitan Stability mini-retreat on Sept. 5, 2002.  She and Susan Deveaux attended.

We are still in need of a representative to the Minnesota Housing Partnership.  The housing summit “Homes for All” will be held on November 15 from 9 AM to 4 PM.

Councilwoman Lisa Goodman has agreed to champion the Minneapolis Housing Trust Fund in the Minneapolis City Council.  It was reported that the Fund may not get the requested $10 MM immediately, but there will be some funding soon.

The Metropolitan Council is attempting to have the LUPA lawsuit dismissed.  There will be a hearing on November 13 in St. Paul.

The bus tour of supportive housing sites will be rescheduled for Spring, 2003 when CSH staff will be available on a weekend day.

Publicity

Please visit the web site at www.Unitarian.org/UUAHP.  A number of possible items to be publicized were discussed.  Bob A. and Ron D. will collaborate on a monthly news release to be sent to each UU congregation in time to be included in monthly newsletters (we hope).  A link to the Minnesota Housing Partnership Bullet-in will be published bi-weekly on the listserv and on the web site.

Along with having a UUAHP contact in each congregation, a suggestion was made that each congregation have an affordable housing bulletin board where relevant articles, pictures, H4H work dates, etc., can be posted.  Jo H. will send copies of the UUAHP contact list to Bob and Ron.

Strategy

The relationship between the UUAHP and the Twin Cities UU Social Justice Network (UUSJN) was discussed at some length.  Issues such as identity and autonomy, publicity, communications, and governance were thoroughly aired.   In due course, Mary Ewald moved that the UUAHP go forward with affiliation with the interim UUSJN.  Seconded by Lois Hamilton.  Passed unanimously.  The interim UUSJN will hold an organizing meeting on November 10, 2002.

Email listservs on Yahoogroups were also discussed.  It was agreed that the general UUSJN would have a distribution list separate from the UUAHP list, as would each of the current UUSJN subgroups.  People can voluntarily join as many groups as they want, but no one will be included on a list involuntarily.

Respectfully submitted,

Ron  Dueltgen
